Casa Llanta
Casa Llanta is Nicaragua’s very first Earthship – a sustainable home built using local byproducts such as car tires and plastic and glass bottles. Casa Llanta is more than a dwelling; it’s an “off-grid” home employing independent power and water systems and serving as an example of a fresh, logical approach to building in developing nations. The house is just over a mile east of Playa Hermosa and Playa Tamarindo; gorgeous, quiet beaches perfect for surfing, swimming, sunbathing, or taking in one of Southern Nicaragua’s spectacular sunsets.
Although Casa Llanta’s construction is non-traditional, the house offers first world amenities to ensure guests feel right at home. The bathroom’s large shower is equipped with hot water, and each of the two bedrooms features a large ceiling fan overhead. The master bedroom offers a comfortable king bed while the second is furnished with three full-sized beds. The large, open kitchen is fully-equipped, and an oversized barbeque grill resides just outside the rear door on the house’s large, shaded patio.
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing vacation home or first hand exposure to sustainable building, Casa Llanta makes for the perfect rental for an unforgettable stay in paradise. Be sure to ask about a discounted rate if you’re interested in sharing your skill set to help keep the Earthship firing on all cylinders.
